Even Less Bandwidth 2021-05-04
Lately I have been paying attention to the hbsc@muc.lurk.org chat room with my XMPP client. Earlier today the topic of Gemini came up again, and the importance of bandwidth considerations. I had mentioned that I try to keep my pages as lean as I can and that I'd like to know how to keep my videos from pre-buffering anything until clicked. That way low-bandwidth users could simply ignore the video and not soak up any ones or zeroes. Before long Link Mauve replied with this link and the knowledge that I could use the preload and poster attributes for my video tags to disable pre-buffering and still provide a preview thumbnail to make it look good. So since I don't really have that many videos here I went back through my posts and did just that. For all of 'em. So now low-bandwidth users should be even more pleased with snork.ca. :-)
