Well Shit, UMaxHosting Is Going Down 2019-12-07

I have a few VPSs that I rent from various hosting companies. A very small one from IntergralHost and the dnscrypt.ca servers from ULayer... and one from UMaxHosting. The bad news is that yesterday I got this email from them:

Dear Customer,

Over the past few months we have been met with many challenges within the hosting business. Some that have not been overcome.

As result of this we will be closing our doors. We will be shutting down this Monday 12/9/2019. We are taking this time to let our customers know so that they may backup and retrieve all of their data before then.

We deeply apologize for this inconvenience.

I guess it is great that people are being given a few days to backup their crap, but it is disappointing that I now have to spend my weekend finding new resources to run my shit on. There are plenty of people talking about it apparently, but it seems to be mostly people offering the same products for more money. There were people who had listed UMaxHosting as deadpooled months ago when my VPS was running just fine. The fact that these guys benefit from dead hosting providers must be just a convenient coincidence. Sure it sucks to have to relocate my crap but I have a hard time justifying triple the cost for the warm feeling that my hosting provider probably won"t shut down. :-(

I really only had a crappy Wurdpress site and a Minetest game running on it so maybe I"ll just run the Minetest game at home and dump the Wurdpress site. Humans are killin" me.
